Every member of our team is professional and well trained. We conduct a thorough screening and interviewing process to identify the best home care providers, and only those who pass this process go on to complete training to deliver our special brand of home care and become Comfort Keepers®. What truly sets our people apart, though, is their natural gift for caring for others. 

All Comfort Keepers pass extensive background checks and complete continuing education. They are bonded, insured and covered by workers' compensation insurance to protect our clients and their families.

Paul Cain, PhD

Chief Problem Solver

Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Dr. Cain was educated in Europe at the University of Paris and the University of Heidelberg where he earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy with minors in Psychology and Sociology. He has been active in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry and has served on the Board of Directors of numerous companies. Dr. Cain is a nationally known speaker, author and business consultant. He is our fearless leader and Chief Problem Solver and has lived in Jupiter for 20 years.

Shauna Barstow

General Manager, Alternate Administrator

Shauna brings more than 15 years of diversified leadership experience spanning from healthcare to financial institutions. She takes pride in building strong, collaborative teams. She combines motivational leadership with process streamlining and technology to ensure the first contact clients have with us is professional, warm, comforting, and most importantly helpful. Shauna’s ultimate goal is to assist others in reaching their full potential. 

Fran Vallie, RN

Lead RN, Advisory Committee Member

Fran is originally from Canada where she earned her nursing degree at the Victoria School of Nursing in London, Ontario.  She currently holds her RN license in both Michigan and Florida.  She has been active as Charge Nurse, Director of Nursing and Regional Manager  for over 15 years.  She also has experience as the Branch Manager for three  Blood Bank locations. Fran was active in Habitat for Humanity as a family liaison in St. Lucie County. While watching elderly parents of friends struggle with their activities of daily living, Fran decided that she needed to be involved  by using her experience to help this growing population. She found her place as a Comfort Keeper and continues to find great joy as she conducts RN assessments, oversees Quality Control and is a Home Health Aide Supervisor for Comfort Keepers in Jupiter and Stuart.

Cogan Cain, BASc

Service Delivery Specialist

Cogan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration and has been active with Comfort Keepers for over 6 years. Part of his role as a Service Delivery Specialist includes being our primary Home Safety Coordinator and he is dedicated, together with our General Manager, to the oversight of quality services in general. Cogan is responsible for the installation and maintenance of the safety technology devices that we provide to our clients, including the popular PERS unit. Cogan is also involved in Senior outings, events and various transportation needs. When someone needs to get somewhere fast, Cogan is the guy to go to.

Arlene Alpert, LMHC

Advisory Committee Member

Arlene is a respected business consultant, psychotherapist, professional speaker, author and educator. Arlene has been a resident of Tequesta for 15 years now. She has shared her knowledge, experience and expertise in the United States and abroad with thousands of people who have experienced substantial positive changes in their lives and careers. Arlene serves on our Professional Advisory Committee.

Joan Fitzsimmons, RN


With over 40 years of nursing experience, Joan brings a broad background of healthcare and nursing knowledge to the team at Comfort Keepers.  Joan has extensive hospital experience in the areas of Medical/Surgical, Intensive Care, and Emergency Department nursing.  She also has many years of experience gained by working as a school nurse and administrator in a large school district. Joan has also been active as the Care Manager for her aging mother and therefore is very cognizant of and sensitive to the needs and requests of clients and their families to enable clients to maintain a vibrant quality of life at any age!

Jean Campbell

Scheduling Coordinator

Since relocating to Florida over eleven years ago, Jean has been active in the healthcare field in a variety of capacities. She has served as Scheduling Coordinator and Central Supply Manager at a large Skilled Nursing Facility in Palm Beach Gardens where she managed daily assignments for over 150 Nurses and Healthcare Aides. Following that position, Jean entered into the Home Health Care field and honed her skills matching Caregivers and Clients to ensure the right fit of needs and personalities. She brings a deep commitment and a high level of experience to the Comfort Keepers Team to ensure the highest level of quality care for our clients.

Jennifer Slean

Office Manager

Jenn keeps our office flowing smoothly by overseeing Payroll, Billing and general Office Management. Recruited for her outstanding organizational skills by our Administrator, Jenn comes to us from the hospitality industry where she was active in managerial capacities including the handling of financial matters and personnel development. She is an avid organizer and, outside the office, a water sports enthusiast.

Tessa Schmitt, BASc

Client Care Coordinator

Originally from New Jersey, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Tessa brings over 8 years of industry experience working in various home health administrative functions. She is passionate about helping people and serving her community which is what led her to a career in healthcare.

As a Client Care Coordinator, Tessa enjoys developing relationships with clients and their families and is dedicated to providing them the utmost level of on-going communication and the highest quality of care.

Sharron Phillips

Registered Nurse

Sharron brings many years of care and experience to Comfort Keepers.

Born in Tennessee, she grew up always knowing she wanted to be a nurse.

She moved to Chicago in her teens and completed her degree after marrying and having her family.

She has spent   15 years in intensive care settings, including Coronary, Pediatrics, Neonatal and Burn Unit.

She brings over 8 years of Home Care experience to the agency, serving multiple roles from private duty, field staff   and case manager to supervisor and hospital coordinator. She has been involved as a quality assurance and staff development manager and really knows the valuable gift a caring, trained companion can be to an organization and to a family.

Sharron has spent the last 10 years of her nursing career as a Health and Wellness educator in Disease Management for a major insurance company.

She was able to move from Ohio to No. Carolina and work from her home while managing clients all over the United States. She cherishes the close relationships that she developed with the clients and their families, even though they never met face to face.

Sharron has also been in challenging personal family life situations, where aging loved ones have needed assistance to maintain their independence and safety in the home setting.

Sharron is excited to add her experience and enthusiasm for life to the Jupiter Comfort Keepers Family of caregivers. She is anxious to meet and get to know our clients and find out how we can best add joy to their lives while providing outstanding care and making each day more fulfilling than the last.
